Outstanding heat resistance
Corundum bricks exhibit exceptional heat resistance, allowing them to withstand extremely high temperatures without significant deformation or structural damage. They possess a high melting point of around 2050°c (3722°f) and can maintain their structural integrity even under severe thermal conditions.

Excellent mechanical strength
Corundum bricks possess excellent mechanical strength, ensuring their durability and resistance to mechanical stress. They have a high compressive strength, enabling them to withstand heavy loads and external pressures.

Superior chemical stability
Corundum bricks exhibit superior chemical stability, making them highly resistant to chemical attack from acids, alkalis, and other corrosive substances. This resistance to chemical erosion ensures the longevity and reliability of corundum bricks in aggressive environments where other refractory materials May deteriorate.

Low thermal conductivity
Corundum bricks have low thermal conductivity, meaning they possess excellent insulation properties. They can effectively minimize heat transfer, reducing energy loss and ensuring efficient thermal management in high-temperature applications. The low thermal conductivity of corundum bricks contributes to improved energy efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and enhanced process control.

Resistance to abrasion and erosion
Corundum bricks exhibit remarkable resistance to abrasion and erosion caused by mechanical wear or particle impact. They can withstand the erosive effects of hot gases, molten metals, and abrasive materials, maintaining their structural integrity over extended periods.

Dimensional stability
Corundum bricks exhibit excellent dimensional stability even under prolonged exposure to high temperatures. They have minimal thermal expansion and contraction, ensuring that they maintain their shape and size throughout thermal cycles.

Versatile applications
Due to their exceptional features, corundum bricks find applications in various industries. They are commonly used in steelmaking, non-ferrous metal refining, cement kilns, and other high-temperature processes. Corundum bricks are also utilized in the lining of chimneys, incinerators, and boilers, where their high heat resistance and chemical stability are vital.

Corundum brick‘s typical applications

01/

Petrochemical industry
Used for lining secondary reformers, gas generators, and catalyst supports, corundum bricks resist high-temperature hydrogen attack and aggressive chemicals.

02/

Glass industry
Employed for crown insulation in glass furnaces, corundum bricks offer low porosity and high resistance to molten glass corrosion, maintaining furnace integrity and efficiency.

03/

Fertilizer production
Utilized in high-temperature reactors and reformers, corundum bricks withstand both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres, ensuring performance and safety.

04/

Non-ferrous metallurgy
Critical in induction, refining, and holding furnaces for metals like aluminum and copper, corundum bricks provide thermal shock resistance and low reactivity with molten metals.

05/

Ceramic industry
Used in kilns and saggars, corundum bricks ensure high refractoriness and durability, supporting consistent ceramic quality and kiln longevity.

06/

Chemical processing
Ideal for reactors and furnaces, corundum bricks resist corrosive chemicals and high temperatures, aiding in the production of high-purity materials.

Types Of Corundum Bricks

Ordinary Corundum Brick

Corundum bricks are refractory products with alumina content greater than 90% and corundum as the main crystal phase. Normal temperature compressive strength (up to 340MPa) is high, load softening start temperature (more than 1700 ℃), good chemical stability, acidic or alkaline slag, metal and glass liquids have strong resistance.

Lightweight Corundum Brick

Lightweight corundum brick is also known as alumina insulation brick, foam corundum brick, or foam alumina brick. It contains more than 90% alumina, mainly composed of corundum lightweight refractory materials. The refractoriness is high, and the volume shrinkage of refiring is small. Compressive strength 4~25MPa, bulk density 0.8~1.35g/cm3. low thermal conductivity. Good thermal shock resistance.

Chrome Corundum Brick

Chrome corundum bricks are corundum refractory products containing Cr2O3. At high temperatures, Cr2O3 and Al2O3 form a continuous solid solution, so the high-temperature performance of chrome corundum products is better than pure corundum products. It has a tough texture, dense structure, and high strength. Chromium corundum bricks have the advantages of high refractoriness, high strength, good thermal shock stability performance, and strong erosion resistance. It is resistant to scouring, touch damage, erosion, and spalling in use.

Electrofused Corundum Bricks

Al2O3 content in α-βAl2O3 electrofused bricks is ≥94%, and its crystalline phase structure is composed of 45~55% α-Al2O3 phase and 45~60% β-Al2O3 phase. Its load-softening temperature is ≥1750℃. Its density is 3.38 to 3.39 g/cm3, of which electrofused α-βAl2O3 bricks are very good bricks for floating glass melting kilns used in the working part of the wall part of the cross-passage pool. For large kilns, it is mainly used in the working section, cross-pass, and branch-pass.

Corundum Mullite Bricks

Corundum-mullite bricks are high-alumina refractory products composed of corundum and mullite main crystal phases. The physical and chemical properties of corundum-mullite brick are as follows: Al2O3>85%, Fe2O3 0.45%, apparent porosity 19%, room temperature compressive strength greater than 55MPa loaded softening temperature greater than 1700℃, heating line change (1600℃, 3h)-0.1%, thermal shock resistance (1100℃ water-cooled) greater than 30 times. It has good high-temperature strength, high-temperature creep resistance, thermal shock resistance, and erosion resistance.

Corundum bricks manufacturing process

Fused cast corundum brick
Firstly mix the industrial alumina and a small amount of soda ash with quartz powder, then melt the raw material in an electric arc furnace. Next, through molding, annealing finally machining the material into the desired shape and size.

Electro-melting corundum brick
Smash electro-corundum and mix it with a little clay and binder. Then mold it into form by brick machine. The density of the brick is between 2.75~2.85 g/m3. Lastly, after drying, heat it up to 1700~1800℃ and finish the procedure.
